This toolkit has been developed by the British Council and 100 Words following a pilot project in early 2010 involving young people from partner schools in Algeria, Bangladesh and the UK that were participating in the Connecting Classrooms programme.
British Council Connecting Classrooms
Connecting Classrooms is the British Council’s programme to build lasting partnerships between schools and school systems in the UK and around the world. Through these partnerships, Connecting Classrooms develops trust and understanding between young people in different societies, creating a safer and more connected world for the future. The programme offers joint curriculum projects for learners, professional development for teachers and school leaders, eligibility for school accreditation and access to a global community of teachers who come together in online forums to network, collaborate and share advice. 100 Words is a project for young people that opens imaginations, develops creative potential and creates global connections. Inspired by changes in Beijing as it prepared to host the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games, 100 Words designed by Natasha Betteridge and Rachel Parslew, aims to capture the essence of a language and culture in thousands of short plays, films or operas - each written using just a hundred words. Words and worlds are shared through live performance and digital technology, with an online environment created to give young people instant access to each other. 100 Words launched its artist development and creative language learning programmes in 2007 with activities delivered in both China and the UK - for latest news go to http://www.100wordplay.com/wordplay/
The British Council and 100 Words have come together to devise this toolkit specifically to help schools participating in Connecting Classrooms to deliver the 100 Words project with their international partnership in a way that enriches their links and develops students’ creativity and language skills.
