Hosting a language assistant in your school is an ideal way to improve language learning for your students.
What is language assistant?

Language assistants are native speakers of French, Spanish, German, Italian, Chinese or Irish. They can work with your students to improve their language skills and boost their confidence.

Language assistants can help your class by preparing students for oral examinations, taking the lead on language lessons, working with teachers on class projects, contributing to cross-curricular learning, and much more.

What are the benefits?

Language assistants bring fresh ideas and energy to a classroom. They have just arrived from a native-speaking context and will be up to date on their local culture and news, meaning they are best placed to work with students on developing their conversational skills and increasing their awareness and understanding of another culture.

Visit the Modern Language Assistant site and find out more about hosting one at your school.

Applications for 2017/18

Applications to host a  language assistant for the 2017/18 academic year are now open.

To ensure the best chance of the British Council finding a suitable assistant for your school, you should apply by 31 March 2017. However, we will be accepting applications until 31 May 2017, when online applications will close.

If sharing an assistant across several schools, the lead (host) school should apply on behalf of the group.
